Equipment Policy/Dress Code (revised July 2025)

NMHA Competitive Program policy on NMHA team equipment. The NMHA believes that all NMHA teams, while participating in game play, should present a consistent look. This look is anchored by the Nepean Raiders Sweaters.

In support of this, Players are required to wear:

  • Black helmets
  • Black Hockey pants
  • Hockey gloves must be consistent with the NMHA colour scheme (Red, Black, Grey, White)

This policy in no way supersedes the requirements of Hockey Canada with respect to required equipment.

Mandatory Equipment

  • Helmet: Must be CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approved and in good condition. The helmet must fit properly and have a chin strap that is securely fastened.
  • Facial Protection: CSA-certified full facial protection is mandatory for players under 18.
  • Neck Guard: Required for minor hockey players.
  • Skates
  • Hockey Gloves
  • Shin Pads
  • Hockey Pants
  • Shoulder Pads/Chest Protector
  • Elbow Pads
  • Mouthguard: While not mandatory, it's highly recommended for dental protection.
  • Jock or Jill: Protects the groin area.

***Coaching staff must wear the following on-ice for practice: tracksuit, CSA certified helmet, face shield recommended, and hockey gloves; all equipment must remain on and always secured while on the ice surface.

To have a consistent look, each player must have the same NMHA approved name bars to keep the same presentation style for the entire team. Therefore, to ensure consistency, new name bars can be obtained each year through one of our approved NMHA vendors, click here: Approved Vendors

Player name bars will be placed above the numbers (i.e. across the shoulders); any team with NMHA provided sponsorship bars are to ensure that they are sewn below the numbers.

Name bars will be white background with black lettering on white sweaters, and black background with white lettering on black sweaters (Name bars are not optional and must be sewn each season). Jerseys are not tucked into hockey pants. Sponsor bars must be visible.

It is expected that teams/players will take necessary care of the game sweaters throughout the season, so they are presentable during games and in a good state upon return at the end of the season.

Garment bags are recommended to minimize the wear/damage to the sweaters. Game sweaters are to be worn for games only and not for practice. Failure to comply will result in the player being warned and reminded of this policy. Continued violations may result in disciplinary action.
